all the shoulds
Sunday, February 25, 2007
i really should write a proper entry.
but i don't have the energy, i really don't, so i need to apologise.
i'm in love with m, i have a very tedious economics essay to write, and lots to do down in the wolfson bar. that's pretty much it, what my life has been like for the past couple of weeks.
i also have big news, but not something i'm prepared to share on a public blog; not yet anyway.
and now i need some family guy and sleep, so i can active and do lots of work tomorrow. wish me luck.

20070210: 021/365 having spent the last three hours writing up the meagre thesis proposal i have been worrying (and obsessing) about for the last two weeks, i now get an immediate reply to my email (with attached the above proposal) to my supervisor saying that... she will be away until monday. d'oh!
oh well. at least i've done something.
fifth week blues, and all-oxford phenomenon, is hitting me bad, and right now i really really really cannot be bothered to do anything but whinge. next week will be a big kick up the arse though, with a research methods essay due and two economics classes in one day (doesn't it sound like fun?!?).
anyway, let's mention more cheerful things. for example, the fact that i spent the last weekend in london with m to see my parents. we stayed in a lovely hotel, had lovely food, walked around portobello road market, looked at lots of chinese furniture and so on. i also found the perfect present for my 25th birthday (25th because it is a present of a certain importance): a bright blue lacquer chinese armoire. beautiful, beautiful.
also, i apparently am an old english man with a flat cap, since i like drinking bitter (although it was only light bitter).
my shared duties as beer manager are turning out to be a lot of fun and very tiring at the same time; in true OCD fashion, i spend far too much time taking stock and cleaning with iana. i'm loving it though and our interventions seem to be putting some long-needed life (and hygiene) back into the bar.
plans for tonight: move kegs of beer around a tiny back room, and then lying in bed with m watching some dvds. i've never been a fan of valentine's day, really... but it is a good excuse to be loved up as i am without feeling silly.
i'm thinking i need to leave the library now.

another weekend, another bop

20070202: 013/365 the rocky horror picture show bop on friday night was lots and lots of fun. it took a very long time to get going (it was pretty empty until 12 or so), but then all of a sudden i was very tipsy and dancing around to the timewarp and YMCA. aaah. it was fantastic - especially because of the men in drag, including m who was wearing a maid's uniform under a surgeon's coat. and lipstick. and high heel boots. i did laugh a lot. :)
so at the end of the night (around 4 in the morning) as you can see i was definitely looking tired! my costume consisted of white shirt (and lots of cleavage), black jacket, bow-tie (which was untied at the end, of course!), and sunglasses. which made me one of the dancing vampires in the timewarp, i think. we also had at least three riff-raffs, an s&m queen, one brad, and various other scary people.
and the night ended on a song by jovanotti, so i couldn't have been any happier.
then saturday was spent recovering from the hungover (absolutely horrific), and sunday cleaning behind the bar. i am now part of the bar committee (beer manager, shared position with a friend), and so i feel somewhat responsible for it. see, our bar is completely student and volunteer ran. and i love it. so the above mentioned friend and i decided the bar did need a good scrub (since we have no cleaners, it was in a right state), and we spent 5 hours doing just that. by the end of i'd banged my head twice, had bled profusely from a finger (cut on a bit of broken glass), really hurt my shin when getting off a stool, and was walking like an old lady because i'd done my back in. nice huh?
(but being a cleaning freak, i can tell you: it was completely worth it)
today has been spent doing not much, getting pissed off at people and generally being slightly irritated and unhappy. the past couple of weeks haven't been very nice, and i'm really not sure why. sigh. one thing's for sure: i need to kick myself in the ass and start doing some work a bit more seriously. really really really need to. essays are looming...
but for now, i think CSI miami will have to do.

20070201: 012/365 life is nice again.
i have handed in my big core essay, the one that counts, and that gives me a lot of satisfaction.
i have made up with m, which is nice, and am about to go over to his room so i can sleep next to him and wake up happy.
i've been wearing swirly earrings all day, as you can see, swirly earrings that get stuck in things but make me happy. and the photo that seemed so uninspired at the beginning actually looks quite good now, i like it. it feels me.
and i'm finally not feeling too stressed out anymore, because i have time, and i've been very organised.
basically, life is nice again.

Version

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, and I cannot describe my life better than a picture can.
And because my heaven is here, I'll wrap the world around it and live in a cocoon. Quoting from a favourite song, 'Letting the cables sleep' by Bush, in its incarnation as a remix. And I do wish the friend who introduced me to the song was here to see the way things turned out.
The photos used on this site were all taken by me and can be found on my Flickr account.
